Introduction to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

LCA is a science- and evidence-based method that quantifies the LCAenvironmental burdens and impacts associated with the entire life cycle of a product or service system. The procedure for conducting an LCA has been standardized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in its 14040-14044 series of standards. LCA has been used to analyze and assess a wide range of product/service systems, including packaging materials, national waste management or energy scenarios, building materials, and food products.

Circular Economy of Metals: Towards a Sustainable Societal Metabolism

Theme: Critical Raw Materials
cm
Metals are present everywhere around us and are one of the major materials upon which our economies are built. Economic development is deeply coupled with the use of metals. During the 20th century, the variety of metal applications in society grew rapidly. In addition to mass applications such as steel in buildings and aluminium in planes, more and more different metals are in use for innovative technologies such as the use of the speciality metal indium in LCD screens.

Circular Product Design Assessment

This course is aimed at helping design professionals such as product architects and industrial design engineers to make their products more circular. By learning how to use unique methods and tools, you will be able to assess the circularity of your product, and to make informed decisions – from minor tweaks to a complete redesign. This course addresses emerging standards for circularity (such as prEN45554) and will be of value both to those working on improving existing products and those creating new ones.
