Every closet has a story to tell, but what happens when that story ends? Many of us take our used clothing to donation bins, believing they will be repurposed or recycled. However, the truth is much more complex. Join us at our upcoming workshop, 'Flaws in the Flow,'  where we explore the hidden journey of post-consumer textile waste and its impact on a global scale.

This workshop brings together experts and practitioners to uncover the intricate network behind textile waste. Learn about the significant gaps in international regulations, the unintended consequences of waste colonialism, and the downstream effects on countries where our discarded textiles end up.

Why attend?

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the global textile waste industry and the role the Netherlands plays in exporting waste to other European, Asian, and African countries.
  • Participate in interactive sessions to share knowledge and brainstorm solutions with fashion companies, recyclers, second-hand shopkeepers, public administrators, and civil society organizations.
  • Join a network of like-minded professionals and researchers dedicated to reducing textile waste and promoting sustainability in the fashion industry.

What do we hope to get out of this workshop?

As the result of a project on the Governance of European Textile Waste, the 'Flaws in the Flow' workshop has two primary objectives:

  1. To create the opportunity to take stock of existing knowledge on post-consumer textile exports and expand on that knowledge by co-designing an agenda for future action and research.
  2. To initiate the formation of a diverse network of practitioners and scholars able to collaborate in future research on this topic aimed at influencing future policies, advance regulatory frameworks and support practitioners and civil society organizations active in reducing textile waste to contrast its related social and environmental injustices.

Who should attend?

This workshop is ideal for individuals and organizations working in the textile waste supply chain, including fashion industry professionals, recycling companies, waste management experts, researchers, policymakers, and advocates for sustainability and environmental justice.
