Note: This event will be in Dutch!

As we navigate the pressing issue of climate change, it's evident that airplanes contribute significantly to CO2 emissions. While the aviation industry has made strides in fuel efficiency and emissions reduction, achieving carbon neutrality for airplanes remains a critical goal. In our upcoming Van Leeuwenhoek Lecture, we will delve into the complexities of this challenge and explore potential solutions.

Looking back in history, we find that concepts for sustainable aviation have existed for some time. From electric airplanes to innovative materials and even designs inspired by nature, such as bird-like aircraft. However, transitioning to CO2-neutral aviation involves more than just technological advancements. It requires a holistic approach that considers factors such as infrastructure, policy frameworks, and societal acceptance.

During the lecture, we will examine real-world examples and case studies to understand the current landscape of sustainable aviation efforts. We will explore the progress made and the hurdles yet to be overcome.

Join us as we embark on a journey to envision a future where air travel aligns with environmental sustainability. Together, let's explore how we can navigate the challenges ahead and pave the way for a more sustainable aviation industry.
