The Burgs Food – George & Sander

Sustainability Focus: Food

DORP 2017

What is Burgs Food
Food made of insects. In this case, a burger that exist only out of natural ingredients like: cricket flower, grain proteïne, grained beans and vegetables. It’s full of proteins, even more than normal burgers.

How do you make people eat insects burgers?
We have chosen for crickets, because people found this more appealing than for example worms. People associate crickets with friendly (maybe also annoying) green things what you hear in France on the campsite. By processing the insects in a burger, it easier for people to eat, than just eat fried cricket.

Why do you make this?
It’s better for the climate to eat insects. Eating an insect is efficient in terms of energy you need to grow an insect. You just need 1.1 kilo of food to grow 1 kilo of insects. Also you need just 1 liter of water! That is nothing compared with meat. In general, the footprint (foodprint ;) is about 25 times less than when eating meat.

Can we taste it?
The questions of course is, how does it taste? Well, suit it yourself! The “Welcome to The Village” jury tasted the burgers and were convinced. Now the Burgs Food Boys are preparing the burgers for the festival. They will prepare 500 burgers!
