The Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Sustainability and the European Union Student Association are thrilled to invite you to their first co-production! On the Tuesday the 3rd of April we will hear from two experts in the field of sustainability: a professor and a politician! They will share their views on the transition towards a circular economy and the more durable use of resources, necessary for a clean world and a stable climate.

Bas Eickhout

Firstly, Benjamin Sprecher from Leiden University's Institute for Environmental Sciences will provide us with in introduction into the possibilities and challenges of building such a circular economy. His expertise ranges from the extraction of raw materials from waste streams tothe study of resilient cities.

Secondly, Bas Eickhout will share his insights into the European Union's role in bringing about this change, and talk about his efforts to influence EU policies in that direction. A climate scientist turned, he has been a member of the European Parliament for the European Green Party since 2009. During his work he has been involved in many of the EU's signature environmental policies. Moreover, having been involved in the negotiations that led to the 2015 Paris climate agreement, he is now working hard to keep the EU on track to meet its emission reduction commitments.

We hope this will be an opportunity to exchange visions for Europe's sustainable future. What has been achieved so far? What remains to be done? Where should the focus lie in the coming years? Naturally, there will also be room to ask any questions you may have!

We look forward to welcoming you at Leiden University's Wijnhavenkwartier in The Hague (Turfmarkt 99) in room 3.48 on Tuesday the 3rd of April from 15:00 till 17:00. Tell your friends!
