We would like to announce the upcoming Triple E lecture series hosted by the CML in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainability. For each last Thursday of the upcoming months, we have invited interesting speakers to address pressing topics in fields related to the research conducted within CML. In addition to the talks, there will be plenty of room to discuss research and potential collaborations.

Insect Decline Apocalypse Lecture

The first lecture will kick off on the 22nd of February with our invited speakers Prof. De Kroon & Dr. Hallman from Radboud University on the large scale insect decline in nature reserves across Germany.

About the speakers

Three-quarters of flying insects in nature reserves across Germany have vanished in 25 years, with serious implications for all life on Earth. The recent study by the group of Hans de Kroon and Caspar Hallman revealed the scale of the losses to all insects and prompted warnings that the world is “on course for ecological Armageddon”, with profound impacts on human society. In this first triple-E-lecture both Hans and Caspar will come to discuss their recent discoveries - and the way forward.

Dr. Caspar Hallman and Prof. Hans de Kroon are both from the Radboud University Nijmegen and collaborate in a program on the resilience of plant and bird communities  in a dramatically changing European landscape.

About the Triple-E lecture series

Ecology, Energy and Environment are three of the major themes of our time which encompass the key challenges regarding our planet’s future. Particularly those regarding natural resources, climate change and environmental degradation. The Institute of Environmental Sciences Leiden in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainability organizes a monthly cross-disciplinary lecture series where we invite globally renowned and inspiring thinkers and scientists alike to address these three pillars of science.

Future speakers include Prof. Kennedy on Cities in a Low Carbon World, Prof. Van Vuuren on Post-Paris Climate Policy and Prof. Ten Bos on the 'Anthropocene' era.
