China and the European Union are economies that rely heavily on imports of large amounts of resources. For instance, in relation to its large infrastructural investments, China now uses about 50% of the cement and steel globally. Both China as the EU have strong policies in place that stimulate an efficient raw materials management, resource-efficiency, and a circular economy.

CML leads a project on International Intelligence on Circular Economy Business opportunities between the EU and China (IntCEB), funded by the KIC Raw materials of the European Institute of Technology. Prior to an IntCEB meeting between European and Chinese experts, a public evening seminar will be organised on the Circular Economy in the EU and China. The seminar will feature some prominent Chinese scientists working on a circular economy, next to prominent experts from the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Sustainability on the same topic. The seminar is free of charge an open for all who are interested. The seminar is organised in the context of the Leiden Asia year with additional support of the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Sustainability (CfS)

Opening by Prof. dr. Arnold Tukker (scientific director CML and LDE CfS)
