The LDE CfS Talks are organized every second Wednesday. In this edition, Dewi Hartkamp (Programme Manager SIGN at Glastuinbouw Netherlands) discusses Agora: farming Europes bio-circular landscapes. Take a look at the recording at the bottom of this page.
Short summary
Dewi will present recent developments in circular greenhouse horticulture and cross-sectoral connections to other sectors in becoming bio-circular. Besides smart solutions for energy, water, nutrient recycling, renewable growing media and biobased materials, more and more it has become clear that agriculture can contribute to a regenerative bioeconomy by connecting agricultural sectors, connecting farming with industry and key technologies such as small scale biorefinery & biotechnology for additional food and protein production. Last but not least, community engagement through e.g. citizen councils, participatory stewardship or trustworthy interoperability platforms, will be of importance for a vital future of circular horticulture and agriculture in Europe. Regional contexts play an important role in defining circular strategies. Who gets to decide how to develop resilient bio-circular landscapes? Hence back to Agora, a central public meeting and marketplace. Urging for room and access to critical infrastructure for regional clusters to ''play together'' – under supervision- to create shared value chains and a healthy autonomous future.
To enhance the competitive strength of Horticulture it is time to play a role in regional bio-circular ecosystems.”
