“Repair within the circular economy” with Nico Werkman
The Circular Industries Talks are organized every second Wednesday. In this edition, Nico Werkman (Project leader repair at Decathlon NL), talks about repair within the circular economy. How is Decathlon building their repair and second-hand business, and how do you balance doing good for the planet while still running a profitable business? Curious for more? Take a look at the recording at the bottom of this page.
Decathlon is a global sports brand – but they do things a little differently than most retailers. As a family-owned business with many in-house brands like Kipsta, Forclaz, Quechua, Van Rysel, and many more, they control the entire process – from design to testing to sales. This allows them to adapt quickly and continuously improve our products.
Sustainability has been an important focus for many years. For example, our in-store workshops have been standard for decades. But in recent years, new business models such as rental, leasing, second-hand sales, and buyback have given the concept of “repair” a whole new dimension.
In the session, Nico distinguishes between “Repair,” “Refurbishment,” and “Refit.”
